Common questions about Invisalign

Invisalign

Invisalign has revolutionised the orthodontic industry and the teeth straightening results we can achieve for our patients, but what is it and how does it work?

Here are the answers to some of the most common questions our team gets asked about Invisalign. If you have a question we haven’t answered below, just give our friendly team a call. They’ll be happy to speak with you.

What is Invisalign?

The Invisalign system is the virtually invisible way to straighten your teeth and achieve the smile you've always wanted. Using advanced 3D computer imaging technology, Invisalign depicts your complete treatment plan, from the initial position of your teeth to the final desired position. A series of clear aligners are then custom-made for your teeth - and your teeth only - to move them little by little. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks before being replaced by the next in the series until the final position of your teeth is achieved. Your Invisalign treatment time will be determined by your orthodontist based on your specific needs. For more information see our Invisalign page.

Will Invisalign fit my lifestyle?

Yes absolutely! When it’s time for a meal, you can take the aligners out. If you have an important occasion, you can remove them for this too. What’s more, with Invisalign treatment you don’t have to visit the orthodontist as often so that means less appointments to fit in to your busy schedule.

Do I have to change my diet?

No, that’s the bonus about Invisalign. You can take the aligners out to eat and drink whatever you want. Just remember to clean your teeth thoroughly before putting the aligners back in.

Will people know I’m having treatment?

Not unless you tell them. Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible, so chances are no one will even notice anything is different, until your new smile is revealed, of course.

Do you have experience using Invisalign?

Yes, at Styrt Orthodontics we are recognised as a certified Invisalign provider. Our team is highly experienced in using this treatment and getting great results. We are also a member of The Invisible Orthodontist network which promotes the use of Invisalign.

Can I brush my teeth while having Invisalign treatment?

Absolutely and it’s very important you do. For the best treatment results you need to keep your teeth in optimum condition. That means keeping up a regular oral hygiene routine. When it comes time to brushing and flossing your teeth – which you should do after every meal and snack – just remove your Invisalign aligners and give your pearly whites a really good clean.

Do I have to wear my aligners all the time?

No, but for the very best results it is recommended you wear them for 20-22 hours per day. It’s fine to occasionally remove your Invisalign aligners and enjoy a special night out but try to wear them as much as possible.

How often do I need to visit the orthodontist?

One of the great things about Invisalign is that you don’t have to visit the orthodontist as often as you would if you were wearing traditional metal braces. That’s because the aligners don’t require adjustments. If you’re wearing Invisalign, you’ll need to have an appointment once every six weeks, but these are quick progress check-ups and you’ll be in and out before you know it.

How many patients are being treated with Invisalign?

More than 4,000,000 patients worldwide have been treated with Invisalign. The number of Invisalign smiles grows daily. At your next appointment, we can help answer any questions you might have, and get you started on the smile you've always wanted.
